United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, one of the most important development agenda for one and a half decades is pretended to have a noticeable impact on Afghanistan.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which stands one of very vital Development agenda worldwide and specially in Afghanistan which will end up by a noticeable impact in overall aspects of Afghanistan policies.

The development agenda was adopted by the world leaders at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda presents a radical new approach to transforming our world, focusing on the integrated pillars of Sustainable Development: economic, social, environmental. It also includes within the framework key elements on peace, justice and institutions which were not part of the MDG framework. The global development agenda is defined by the SDGs and Afghanistan Government is deeply committed to attaining these SDGs.

Afghanistan as active member of the UN promised for adoption of sustainable development goals in Afghanistan and parallel initiated the work. In the summit of general assembly of the united nation, Afghanistan committed for achieving and pursuing the sustainable development goals till 20130. The government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has started the fundamental works on introducing the SDGs during 2015 and in 2016 works has been done on finalization of Afghanistan SDGs.

As per the cabinet decision dated 7th October 2015, Ministry of Economy has been assigned to lead on the SDG Coordination, Implementation and reporting in the country level. Taking into account the importance of the SDG implementation in Afghanistan the ministry of Economy in addition to initiating other works on SDGs has established the SDGs secretariat in Directorate of Policy and Result Based Monitoring.
